Ornament & symbolism

A torba is a small storage bag hung inside the tent; its woven face carries a single, jewel-like gül. Saryk weaving is famous for its purple-brown reds and exceptional knot density.

History

Storage bags were woven with the same care as carpets, since they furnished the tent. Antique Saryk pieces are among the most finely knotted of all Turkmen weaving.
