Mountain kilims and gilams from the Pamir valleys.

The tradition

Tajik weaving belongs to the high valleys of the Pamirs and the Zarafshan. Flatwoven kilims and the knotted darvaz gilam carry geometric, almost architectural motifs — stepped diamonds, hooks and stars in earthy madder, walnut brown and undyed wool. Pieces were woven for the home and for dowries, and the colour comes from local plant and insect dyes.
